Another piece of the puzzle fits for those people wishing to create audio files on their pocket PC for distribution from a web site, blog or as a podcast. The creation and distribution process involves the following steps;
1. create an audio file on the pocket pc - I use NoteM to create mp3 files (see
http://www.mobile-learning.blog-city.com/recording_audio_on_a_pocket_pc__notem.htm)
2. upload the audio file to the web server, without syncing to a computer - I trialled orneta -
http://www.orneta.com/ - which is a freeware FTP client for the pocket pc. This software allows you to FTP a file (such as your audio file) to your blog (I’ve ftp files to this blog). Out of interest they also provide a Smartphone version :-)
3. create the blog entry or change the xml/xhtml web page to tell the world of the new file. In terms of the blog, it’s straightforward. I simply email an update to my blog including the url for the audio file. However, in terms of the editing and saving an XML/xhtml file locally, and then uploading well this needs further investigation. The upload is simple – use the FTP client – however, the editing / creation of the xml/file locally is the issue - I'm just about to start trials using lgtEditor.
The outcome of steps 1 and 2, are available as an MP3 audio file from the following link -
http://files.blog-city.com/files/A04/66719/b/testfile1.mp3. There are many questions, one in particular is production values. Is the use of low spec MP3 creation/capture tools acceptable for what you are trying to achieve? If yes, then the potential of use might be considerable.
